About Troop 37

Troop 37 was founded in 1917 when Herman Peters organized the Troop and had the first meeting at McDuffie’s Grocery, which is now a bank and is still standing at the corner of Second and Main Streets.

Our troop is very well known for our kayaks. Every spring, new scouts build their own kayaks with help of parents and the troop. We then test these creations out at our week long troop-run Kayak Camp, located in Lassen Volcanic National Park. In addition to this camp, we offer many other camps throughout the summer as well as the school year. Some examples include Camp Oljato, Camp Emerald Bay, and High Adventure Camp Philmont and Northern Tier. On top of that, many of our scouts also participate in National and World Jamborees.

Troop 37 is run mostly by the Scout Leadership team. This gives older scouts the opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills as trip leaders and troop officers.

The troop has dozens of scheduled service projects each year, and many more Eagle Scout projects.  You’ll find us at community events in Los Altos, and results of our projects at parks, schools, and streets throughout the area.
